The MSEDCL flying squad has unearthed
power thefts of around Rs 10.84 lakh in 33 cases. As per the assessment,
the guilty consumers had pilfered around 60,000 units. These figures
pertain to Congress Nagar division and the three divisions in rural
areas of the district. Of the 33, 16 cases were detected in Congress
Nagar while the remaining 17 in rural areas.
The discovery was part of a drive launched across the state recently. Over 1,000 cases of theft were detected and the assessment amount was Rs 10.28 crore.
The flying squads after going through the consumption pattern of consumers checked the meters of 148 persons. These included residential, non-domestic as well as industrial connections. Action was taken against 33 consumers under Section 135 of Electricity Act and against five consumers under Section 136. The process of registering offences against these consumers with special MSEDCL police stations has been started.

In Nagpur urban zone, the highest amount
of power theft was detected at the residence of Joginder Pal Singh of
Panjra. The assessed amount was Rs 6.54 lakh. He had tampered with his
electric meter.
