India's Prime Minister stressed the need for more
power generation and said the Centre aims at generating more than 27,000
MW nuclear power in the coming 10 years. The Prime Minister was speaking at the foundation stone laying
ceremony of Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership and National
Cancer Institute in Jasaur Kheri village, Haryana. Describing nuclear energy as the reliable source of power generation,
Singh said the country had achieved the capability of making nuclear
fuel among the nations, which had developed the technology to set up
nuclear power plants.
“It is mandatory to ensure safety of material used for nuclear fuel,
so that the same could not be used by anti-social elements,” he said.He also expressed satisfaction over the safety measures adopted by the country.“After the 2011 Fukushima incident in Japan, we have adopted new
safety measures in design and management of power plants. Our safety
measures can be matched with the rest of the world and efforts in this
direction will be continued,” he said.The Centre for Nuclear Energy not only organise seminars and
workshops of national and international experts but also brought Indian
and foreign scientists on a single platform through research and
training programmes, he said.
“Similarly, the organisation will promote global nuclear energy
partnership. We will jointly work with international atomic energy
agencies and countries such as Russia, France and America so as to
achieve desired results,” the Prime Minister added. The upcoming
national cancer institute, to be set up at AIIMS campus in Badsha
village in Jhajjar, would be the lone mega health project of the
country. It will be developed at a cost of around `2,000 crore in more
than three years and will have 710 beds, 550 doctors and 2,200 nurses.
“The people of the area will be directly benefited by the project as
they would get annual royalty for 33 years apart from compensation for
their land,” the Prime Minister said.
