Goodwill announced today it is expected to save approximately $40,000 in
energy costs per year through its new photovoltaic (PV) system on its
Kilihau offices and warehouse.“We are always looking at ways to control our
expenses so that we can better serve our mission. In addition to
decreasing energy costs, the reduction in emissions will go a long way
towards helping the environment,” said Laura Smith, President/CEO of
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. Revolu Sun designed and installed the solar system comprised of 680
Sun Power 327 watt modules. The resulting solar power will immediately
save Goodwill 42 percent through a Power-Purchase Agreement compared to
what they would have paid HECO for the same number of kilowatt-hours.
In addition, the PV system will generate as much clean, renewable
energy as planting 87 acres of trees, and it will offset the burning
of over 26,000 barrels of oil and 14.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide
from being released into the environment over the 35 year lifespan of
the system.
“We were able to provide Goodwill with a financial
solution that allowed them to have a solar system benefited by the
State and Federal incentives that are normally unavailable to
Non-Profits,” said Todd Georgopapadakos, RevoluSun Principal. “The
result is considerable savings for Goodwill.”
