GRIDCO may surpass solar power buying target in FY 14

State-run power trader aims to surpass the purchase target mandated for 2013-14, betting on new solar projects implemented inside and outside the state.

"We will definitely surpass the target this year and will use the surplus power to compensate our shortfall account of previous years," said an official of Gridco.

For the current fiscal, the (OERC) has asked Gridco to buy at least 46 MU (million unit) solar power, which is calculated on the basis of 0.2 per cent of total estimated electricity buying requirement of the bulk supplier in the year.

Gridco said, it has already procured 28 MU and is in talks to arrange another 20 MU from other projects.

"We are already getting 28 MU (million unit) solar power currently out of which 13 MU is procured within the state. We shall be getting another 15-20 MU by the end of March," said the Gridco official.

Gridco plans to buy 67.76 MU for the current fiscal, as per Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) filed by the company this year. It proposed to buy 33 MU from Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) and expects to get at least 20 MU by the end of this fiscal, taking total solar procurement for the year to 48 MU, ahead of the yearly target.
