The global installed capacity of coal-fired power generation is expected to increase from 1,673.1 GW in 2012 to 2.057.6 GW by 2019, according to a report from Transparency Market Research. Pulverized coal systems, which accounted for more than 50 percent of
the market share in 2012, are expected to continue to dominate the
technology-based demand until 2019, according to the report. Cycle
furnaces will account for a lower share, while other technologies, such
as fluidized bed and coal gasification, will account for a small part of the market share.
Commercial applications of coal-fired power generation, which
accounted for 56 percent of the market share in 2012, are expected to
grow, while residential applications are expected to decline as other
sources of energy such as solar power and hydropower become more
popular, Transparency Market Research states. The Asia Pacific market, which currently has more than 56 percent of
the global market share in installed capacity, is expected to show the
most growth, according to the report.
